ROY Keane is homing in on a couple of targets as he looks to bolster his Championship squad.

With David Norris a long term injury and Jaime Peters ruled out for tomorrow's clash with Crystal Palace, Keane wants a new midfielder, and possibly a striker as well.

The Ipswich Town boss this morning was not expecting a player to be signed before the Palace game, but that could change with one phone call.

He said: “We are no closer but we still have a week or two to play with.

“Midfield is an area of the team I'm looking at but I would not expect any news within the next 24 hours.

“I will be sitting with my staff today and no doubt we will have a chat. It is natural to throw a few names around but we will play it by ear.

“I'm looking at loan options or maybe bringing in a player but we won't be spending millions.”

Daryl Murphy at Sunderland, Gary Deegan from Bohemians and Dundee United's Margaro Gomis continue to be linked but Keane refused to be drawn on names.

He said: “There is one or two I have in mind. There are players out there I admire, Gerrard and Lampard, but we are not in apposition to get them just now.

“As much as we are homing in one or two players you have to be open minded. Some managers get back to you some don't so fingers crossed some will get back to us.

“A deal we thought was dead might all of a sudden happen. We all have to be patient which can be difficult.

“I'm comfortable with the squad we have for the next couple of weeks or so but in terms of a season in the Championship we are short there is no getting away from it.”

With Peters out with an ankle injury Alan Quinn has a chance of retuning to the squad, although Owen Garvan is likely to start tomorrow.

Keane said: “Jaime is touch and go, so we may make changes we will have a look at it after training.”

“Quinn will be training with us and has a chance of being involved.”
