LIAM Trotter returns to Ipswich Town on Monday determined to force his way into Jim Magilton's plans.

The 20-year-old midfielder's loan spell with Grimsby comes to an end today after their League Two clash with Aldershot and he intends to show his spell at Blundell Park has helped him develop.

If he doesn't figure then Trotter will look to move on after acquiring a taste for regular first team football.

Trotter said: “I am coming back and will do everything possible to show the manager I should play and what I have got.

“We will have to see how the next few weeks go before the January transfer window opens.”

Trotter is eligible to play one more match for Town before his loan deal from Ipswich expires.

The 20-year-old believes his time at Blundell Park has been worthwhile.

He said: “It is my final game. You can only go somewhere for three months at the maximum, so we can't extend it any more.

“I have enjoyed it here. It has been good for me and I have got a lot of experience.

“I have played week in, week out. I have played every game apart from in the FA Cup.

“Other than the results, it has been good all-round for me.

“My main aim when I came here was to play regularly and stay in the team.

“I achieved what I wanted to do personally, but it would have been even better to get a few more positive results.”

Trotter and his team-mates go into today's match on the back of a confidence-boosting win at home against high-flying Shrewsbury Town.

He continued: “It was a very good result, especially looking at where they were in the table.

“I thought it had been coming for the last two games.

“I don't see why we can't go down to Aldershot and win.”

From what he has seen in his three months in Cleethorpes, Trotter believes Town can start to climb the League Two table.

He said: “I think it is just consistency really.

“I think maybe the teams at the top started the season well and got a consistent run going and they are just carrying on from there.

“As long as you get a few wins on the bounce when you are winning, you could finish anywhere in the table as I think every team can beat every other team on their day.”
