With Manchester United winning the League Cup final recently, we take a look back at when Ipswich Town took on Brentford in the second round of the same competition back in 2004.
It was a hard fought game – the first half ending goalless – with Darren Bent, Dean Bowditch and Pablo Counago fronting the Ipswich side, all failing to make an impact in the first 45 minutes.
The second half saw a change in personnel for Town as Counago made way for Shefki Kuqi in an attempt to get a goal, but the score remained the same as the game broke the hour mark.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 73rd minute when Tommy Miller, who had come on as a substitute for fellow midfielder Jim Magilton, netted.
Kevin Horlock, the current boss at Maldon & Tiptree, was brought on to beef up the Town defence and in the 90th minute Ian Westlake sealed the 2-0 victory for Town as they progressed into round three.
