Go get them Chops.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has today issued a rallying cry to top scorer Michael Chopra to “reward” the Super Blues for the support they have shown the troubled striker.

After being blown away by the fans’ faith in Chopra after he admitted the extent of his gambling addiction, Jewell wants his top marksman to repay them – starting with today’s visit of Doncaster Rovers at Portman Road.

Jewell said: “We just want to help and support him. I have to say the supporters have been terrific about it. Hopefully he can reward us – and them – with a good performance and some goals.”

Chopra last week lifted the lid on his off-the-pitch problems and was predictably barracked by sections of the Millwall fans during Saturday’s 4-1 defeat.

But this afternoon he will have the vast majority of the crowd cheering his name – and Jewell believes that is the best “therapy” for the 27-year-old.

The manager explained: “The way I see it if he fully concentrates on doing well with his football, everything else should be alright.

“I want to be here talking about the goals he’s scored and how well he’s playing. One of the best bits of therapy and treatment for him will be getting out on the pitch and scoring goals.”

Chopra, who has notched five times this season, is again expected to line up upfront against bottom club Doncaster Rovers alongside Jason Scotland who said of his strike partner: “Whatever problems Chops is going through, you don’t see it in him in training as he is always happy and smiling. Everybody is looking forward to playing at home and trying to get three points and move up the table.”
