IPSWICH Town's teenage defender Tommy Smith is likely to be out for six months after badly breaking an ankle today.

The 18-year-old was injured towards the end of training today and will now need an operation.

Club physio Matt Byard said: “Tommy is in hospital and undergo surgery when the swelling has settled down.

“He has a badly broken ankle and ligament damage and will need an operation to repair the joint. That will take place sometime this week when the surgeon feels it's the right time.”
