IPSWICH Town will entertain Leyton Orient in the first round of the Carling Cup while Colchester United go to Gillingham and Norwich City will be at MK Dons, who knocked the Blues out of the competition last season.

The games will be played the week commencing August 11, with Town likely to play their tie on the Tuesday.

Town have met Orient once before in the league Cup, back November 1989 when they triumphed 2-0. Micky Stockwell and Jason Dozzell got the goals in what was the last time to two sides met in a competitive match.

The Blues have an excellent record against the League Two side having only ever lost once at home in all competitions, and that was in March 1953.

This could represent a very good chance for Town to progress in the competition after abject failure in recent years.
