THE final day of the summer transfer window could see one more Ipswich Town player leave on a free.

But there remains some doubt where midfielder Ryan Stevenson could be heading after more twist and turns last night.

After Blues boss Paul Jewell apparently sanctioned Stevenson’s departure, Motherwell reportedly headed the chase for the 27-year-old Scottish midfielder.

Despite only being in Suffolk for seven months, having signed from Hearts for 50,000, we understand Stevenson’s young family have been unable to settle in the area – with Jewell happy to help speed along a move back to their homeland.

But Motherwell boss Stuart McCall last night admitted that the move had stalled, saying: “I’ve not got any positive vibes at all today. I’ve been concentrating on the game but I genuinely doubt it.”

That has opened the door for Stevenson to make an amazing return to Tynecastle – less than 12 months after going on strike at Hearts following a dispute over unpaid wages.

Hearts manager John McGlynn told BBC Scotland: “There is an interest so we’re hopeful we can do something with Ryan,”

A decision on Stevenson’s future is expected today.
