FOOTBALL: EX-Ipswich Town skipper Jon Walters has hit back at former boss Roy Keane, following the episode that saw the duo fall out on the eve of Walters’ move to Stoke City last month.
Keane stripped Walters of the captaincy on the eve of Town’s first home game of the season, against Burnley, after the former Crewe front-runner had been linked with a move away from Portman Road and also pulled out of the midweek Carling Cup trip to Exeter due to ill health.
After helping his new club Stoke to a 1-1 home draw against West Ham on Saturday, Walters revealed: “Roy annoyed me because he made me out to be a bad egg, which is not what I am about. I gave 100% at Middlesbrough (opening day 3-1 win), but three days later and it all kicked off.”
Walters described the lengths he went to, in order to prove to Keane that he was ill in the build-up to the Exeter game, when he apparently caught a vomiting bug off his family.
Walters said: “At 3am on Tuesday morning I was throwing up. I even took a picture of my sick and sent it to the physio because I knew Roy would not believe me.”
