Ipswich Town have lost out to Championship rivals Wigan Athletic in the race to sign Fulham midfeidler Ryan Tunnicliffe, on a temporary deal.
The 21-year-old made 29 loan appearances for Ipswich this season, before returning to Manchester United, prior to being sold to the Cottagers in January.
Town were interested in taking the young midfielder back on loan, with Tunnicliffe’s future at Fulham seemingly up in the air following the dismissal of the man that signed him, Rene Meulensteen and his backroom staff, Alan Curbishley and Ray Wilkins.
Wigan, meanwhile are chasing an immediate return to the top-flight and manager Uwe Rosler said: “Ryan is a very promising prospect player who has experience in the Championship, and after we lost Ben (Watson), I am delighted we have got someone who is so football-educated, having come through the ranks at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.
“He is a different type of player from Ben but will definitely add a new dimension to us.”
