IPSWICH TOWN 3 COLCHESTER 2

IPSWICH Town found their shooting boots to edge an eventful Championship derby at Portman Road this afternoon.

Colchester United were very much in the hunt for much of the game, stroking the ball around the pitch like a promotion-chasing side.

David Wright was sent off in stoppage time for handling the ball before the impressive Chris Iwelumo scored from the penalty spot.

Colchester had taken the lead in the 15th minute through Karl Duguid, seconds after Billy Clarke had an effort cleared by Garry Richards from what looked like a couple of inches over the goal line.

Richards was penalised for a foul on Alan Lee in the 29th minute and the Town striker got to his feet to equalise from the penalty spot.

Sylvain Legwinski headed Ipswich in front in the 57th minute and substitute Danny Haynes scored Ipswich's third in the 82nd minute.

Iwelumo gave Colchester a consolation second goal with a 90th minute penalty but it wasn't enough to earn a point for the visitors.
