The 54-year-old Queensland businessman is putting money and sponsorship into the Witches and their Aussie riders this year, as he looks to swell his interest in speedway in the UK.

And it could spell good news for Ipswich promoter Chris Louis, as the Witches build up a head of steam towards the 2013 season, which is just a month away.

Lennon Engineering is an aviation refuelling equipment company Down Under and John Lennon a keen speedway fan.

“I spent some time in England last year with Craig Hyde, who some people will remember racing at Ipswich many years ago,” Lennon said from his Queensland home.

“Craig showed me where he used to race at Foxhall and there I met John and Chris Louis and we got talking.

“It struck me how passionate Chris was about the Witches and the great history of the club.

“While I was there I met Rohan Tungate too. He is a young Aussie and I watched him race.

“I remember thinking his engine could be a bit quicker, so I decided then I wanted to help out the club and Aussie riders like Rohan.”

Lennon will be providing sponsorship for the GB v Australia Test series that takes place in the UK this year, with one taking place at Foxhall at the end of May.

He is looking forward to that and possibly future opportunities with the Witches.

“We’ll see how it goes this season and I’m happy to get involved with the Witches this year,” Lennon added.

“It’s early days but I know what Chris Louis wants to do with the Witches and that’s get them back in the Elite League.”

Louis commented: “It’s exciting news for the club.

“Australia is where the young talent is coming from and we have an enthusiastic guy Down Under who will help Ipswich Speedway.

“But don’t be fooled. John is fiercely competitive, a good businessman and will be a big addition to us.”
