ONE of the most prominent figures in British tennis visited Suffolk this morning, casting her eye over the area’s best youngsters at Ipswich Sports Club.

Judy Murray, the new Fed Cup captain and mother of world number four Andy presented awards from the Elena Baltacha Academy of Tennis to Player of the Year Sofiya Khalyaeva, 10, and Most Improved Player, Justice Hall, seven.

Murray also watched intently as world number 50 Baltacha, preparing for next month’s Australian Open, took to the court with Spaniard Danny Dios for an intense training game.

Murray is destined to skipper Baltacha and the likes of Anne Keothavong, Heather Watson, as well as top-200 players Laura Robson and Naomi Broady at the Fed Cup in Israel, in February, as Great Britain aim to reach World Group II.
