JULES Mumford has taken over as first-team manager of Long Melford, after Rob Benson decided to stand down.
Benson, who was appointed to the post in July, has decided to relinquish his post due to family commitments.
He leaves with Melford third from bottom of Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League, after winning just three of their 19 league games this season.
Mumford, who has been assistant manager for the last two seasons, will be in charge for the first time on Saturday at March Town United.
A statement on the club’s website said: “Robbie Benson has stepped down from his position as first-team manager of Long Melford Football Club due to family commitments.
“Robbie was appointed manager in July during a difficult time for the club and although it has been a tough season Melford never lost more than three matches in a row under Robbie’s stewardship.
“Melford won seven matches with Robbie in charge and also recorded four draws. The highlight of Robbie’s time at the club was a good run in the FA Vase, twice knocking out higher league opposition.
“The Board of Directors thank Robbie for his efforts over the past season and wish him well for the future.”
