IPSWICH Witches' rider Kozza Smith was in a “comfortable” condition in Ipswich Hospital today after a dramatic opening night to the season at Foxhall.

Smith, who celebrates his 21st birthday today, suffered a collapsed lung after crashing in heat two of last night's curtain-raiser Challenge meeting against Lakeside Hammers.

A spokesman for Ipswich Hospital today said that Smith was “comfortable, conscious and breathing unaided” following last night's drama.

Witches' skipper Leigh Lanham was also admitted to Ipswich Hospital following another frightening crash but appears to have suffered no more than a broken finger or two.
