The winners played for over an hour with 10 men, but showed the character and the skill to keep a well organised Lakenheath at bay, scoring the winner in the 81st minute through a penalty by man of the match former Ipswich youth player Kevin Inglis.
Whitton were reduced to 10 men in the 29th minute when a superb flick by Aaron Rutter released Aaron Turner, and Neil Shade brought Turner down right on the edge of the penalty area to be dismissed correctly for a professional foul.
Both sides struck the woodwork with Lakenheath unable to break down a stubborn Whitton defence despite impressing with their flowing style of football in front of over 1,000 fans.
