Leiston boss Glenn Driver paid tribute to his players after they won the Suffolk Premier Cup at Portman Road tonight.

Two goals from Christy Finch and one from Matt Blake were enough to see off a gallant Bury side, who never gave up, even after going down to 10 men just before the break when skipper Ollie Fenn was sent off after a skirmish.

However, this was Leiston’s night.

Four times they have lost this final but, scoring at crucial times, they never looked back after Blake’s opener.

“That group of lads deserve this,” Driver said. “It’s been a great season, getting into the play-offs, now winning the Premier Cup. I thought first half we tried to force it a bit too much. But we were good second half and Chris Henderson has had a great game, Christy Finch took his goals so well.

“Even though they were down to 10 men, it was never easy. But we’ll enjoy this.

“Now we want to take a look at the club and continue to build it. We want more young players in and we are targeting some. We don’t have an academy like Sudbury and Needham do, so we will have to look for young players.

“The club has come a long way in a couple of years.”

Bury boss Ben Chenery was proud of his side.

“Of course the sending off was key but we can’t argue with it,” he said.

“We’ve been brave and bold and done ourselves proud.

“You would not have known it was 10v11 in that second half and anyone turning up wouldn’t have known either. But fair play to Leiston, they are a good side.”
