Leiston boss Glenn Driver believes Matt Blake’s two goals against Thurrock was just what the doctor ordered for the striker.

Blake, who was the league’s top scorer last season, had failed to find the net so far this campaign. But it all came good on Saturday as Leiston moved upto second in Bostik Premier – tonight they entertain Harlow Town at Victory Road.

“It was great to see not just Matt score the goals, but the way he scored them,” Driver said.

“It was the Matt Blake of last season, clinical, he needed that, now I’m confident there will be no stopping him.”

Leiston beat Thurrock on Saturday and now face a Harlow side who beat Tonbridge 2-1 – also on Saturday.

“This will be another tough test, but they are all tough tests in this division,” said Driver.

“Harlow had a good result on Saturday.

“But we are at home, the pitch is immaculate and I’m looking forward to us getting the ball down and playing. And for the first time this season I have a full squad to choose from.”

Meanwhile, another important Bostik Premier tie takes place at Bloomfields tonight as Needham Market entertain Lowestoft Town.

Both sides will be desperate for a win after neither side picked up three points on Saturday.

Richard Wilkins’ Needham picked up a point at lowly Tooting & Mitcham, while Lowestoft were ahead twice at Kingstonian, but ended up on the losing end of a five-goal thriller, by three goals to two.

Bearing in mind the Trawlerboys had to play 78 minutes with just 10 men after Dean Leacock was sent off, it was a brave effort from Ady Gallagher’s side.

In Bostik North, AFC Sudbury are looking for their first win of the season after losing to Cheshunt on Saturday. Tonight they entertain Brentwood at Kings’ Marsh Stadium.

There were plenty of smiles at Ram Meadow on Saturday afternoon as Ben Chenery’s side thrashed Tilbury 6-1 to move upto seventh in the table.

It was a cracking result for the Blues and tonight they have a great chance to move up the table even further, as they travel to Norfolk to face a Norwich United side who have yet to pick up a point this season.
