Leiston return to league action tomorrow afternoon at Victory Road on ‘Non-League Day’ as Halesowen Town visit in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Central Division, writes Craig Cooper

Not for the first time this season, the visitors are a side that Leiston have never played.

Halesowen are currently ninth in the league table, and have 13 points to their name but have played a game more than the Blues.

It’s set to be a tough fixture for Leiston, who lost their last home league game to Barwell two weeks ago.

“We know Halesowen will be a tough side,” said Leiston manager Glen Driver.

“They have some excellent players.

“Having such a good surface at Victory Road means teams relish the chance to play good football and gives them a lift.

“We have to get back to being positive and being brave on the ball. If we want to be around the play-offs, then we need to start putting together back-to-back victories.”

Driver’s side had lost two games on the trot at home to Hastings United in the FA Cup and to Barwell in the league, but defeated Needham Market 11 days ago in the League Cup 4-2 on penalties, after the match finished 1-1.

“After losing in the FA Cup, it is nice to still be in the League Cup and we hope to get a home draw in the next round,” Driver added.

Meanwhile, Robert Eagle has departed Victory Road and signed for Lowestoft Town.

The midfielder came to the club in the summer of 2017.

Rob played 29 times in all competitions for the first team, scoring once against Met Police.

“I’d like to thank Chris Henderson (who left last week for Lowestoft) and Rob Eagle for their efforts in a Leiston shirt and wish them all the best at their new clubs,” Driver said.

After tomorrow afternoon’s match, Leiston host King’s Lynn Town on Tuesday night, before hitting the road in their next two matches at Stratford Town and St Ives Town.

Meanwhile Leiston Reserve managers Ian Cornforth and Dean Last will be hoping to build on their win at Needham Market Reserves on Wednesday night in the First Division Knockout Cup.

Tomorrow, the Reserves travel to Downham Town.
