Leiston head to basement side Bedworth looking for first league win in five
Leiston play their first Saturday away league match for eight weeks tomorrow afternoon as they travel to ‘The Oval’ in Warwickshire to face Bedworth United, writes Craig Cooper.
The Blues will be looking to get back to winning ways as they are without a victory in their last four league matches.
“I thought last week against Stourbridge, on the balance of play, we didn’t deserve to lose the match,” Leiston manager Stuart Boardley said.
“Stourbridge were better in both boxes and were simply more effective than us which is a credit to their front players and back four. We spoke with the players after the game and encouraged them to keep plugging away because if we play like we did against Stourbridge every week we will be absolutely fine.”
Leiston’s opponents sit bottom of the table at present and are winless in the league.
They have drawn five and lost 14 of their 19 league games to date.
“Dominic Docherty and Robert Eagle will miss the Bedworth match through injury,” Boardley continued.
“Joe Jefford and Matt Rutterford are unavailable, but Marcus Garnham and captain Tom Bullard will be back after missing last weekend’s game.”
In fact, Bullard will be making his 200th appearance for Leiston in all competitions after signing from Bury Town in 2014.
“We have had two good training sessions during the week and are going into Saturday’s match in a good frame of mind,” added Boardley.
“However, we are under no illusions that Bedworth will offer us a stern test despite sitting bottom of the table and we will have to be right on the money to come away with the points.”
After today’s match, Leiston head to two play-off chasing sides next week.
On Tuesday night, they visit Alvechurch, while next weekend Leiston visit Coalville Town. They end the year hosting Needham Market on Boxing Day.
Meanwhile, back at Victory Road tomorrow, the Reserves host Fakenham Town in league action.
Last night, goals from Harrison Bacon and Witness Mhango helped the U18s defeat Framlingham Town 2-1 at Badingham Road.
