Wingate & Finchley 1 Leiston 0

Leiston missed a chance to move up to second in the table, when their five-game winning streak was ended at hosts Wingate & Finchley tonight.

The Suffolk side had won five games out of five since the turn of the year, but they came unstuck at Summers Lane in the Borough of Barnet, with Steve Wales netting the only goal of the game in the 77th minute.

Wales’ long-range free-kick took a wicked deflection on its way past keeper Jacob Marsden, the ball nestling in the bottom corner of the net.

It was a game of few chances, Matt Blake squandering Leiston’s best opportunity with a free header which he ballooned over the bar midway through the second half.

Glenn Driver’s men therefore stay fourth in the table.
