Braintree Town 0 Lincoln City 4-

Braintree Town were unable to halt Lincoln City’s promotion push at Cressing Road tonight, as Imps boss Danny Cowley made a triumphant return to his old club, thanks to a hat-trick from debutant Lee Angol.

Tranmere’s defeat at Barrow allowed Lincoln to stretch their lead at the top of the National League to six points, while The Iron remain six points clear of the drop zone.

Lincoln were 2-0 up inside the first quarter of the game, with Angol scoring on 14 and 22 minutes. Angol’s first came from a corner, after Whitehouse’s initial effort had struck the bar, and it was no real surprise when The Iron shipped a second just eight minutes later as Angol’s low shot skidded past keeper Beasant.

City continued to dictate, and Beasant denied Angol a first-half hat-trick with a good save from a header. But Angol completed his hat-trick via an 82nd minute penalty, after a foul on Matt Rhead, before Nathan Arnold added a fourth three minutes later.
