LEYTON Orient, tomorrow’s visitors to the Weston Homes Community Stadium, have this afternoon signed Kevin Lisbie on a four-month contract.

Former Colchester United front-runner Lisbie had been a free agent since being released by Ipswich Town this summer, at the end of his three-year deal.

There had been speculation linking Lisbie with a return to Colchester, for a third time, following successful stays at the Essex club in 2007-08 (in the Championship) and 2009-10 (on loan in League One).

But U’s assistant manager Joe Dunne ruled out any possibility of Lisbie signing for the U’s this week, ahead of this weekend’s home game against Leyton Orient, and ironically the 32-year-old has ended up signing for the O’s instead. The deal is until January 8.

Lisbie had been keen to sign for a club in the London area, where he is based, and the O’s certainly fit that bill. He had been reluctant to drop into League Two, even though one of his former clubs, Gillingham, had been tracking him.

Lisbie is set to go straight into the O’s squad, alongside fellow former Colchester United strikers Jamie Cureton and David Mooney.

He has been given the No. 9 shirt.
