A PUPIL from Ipswich School will be representing Great Britain in the European Athletics Association's Under-20 Championships.

Louis Persent, the 16-year-old from Colchester, will travel to Hengelo in the Netherlands later this month to compete in his first international outing.

Persent, who is part of the club Colchester Harriers AC, will be running for his country in the 4x4 relay but previously distinguished himself at the Essex AAA Track and Field Championships in May.

He won gold medals in the 110m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles and the 400m, in which he broke the Championship record by a second. Ipswich School's Headmaster, Ian Galbraith said: “We are delighted but not surprised that Louis will be representing Great Britain for the first time. He is a wonderful all-round athlete.”
