Magpies Ladies IV 1 Beccles 1

MAGPIES faced Beccles at home for their last league match of the year, looking to improve on their last results.

The match started fast-paced, with the play open and flowing from both sides, which was to set the scene for the entire 70 minutes. Magpies showed good passing and movement through the midfield to the forward line and Beccles were strong on the counter-attack.

Magpies just edged it possession wise, and took the lead midway through the half; a strong, accurate cross from the right wing finding Laura Schultheiss well-positioned on the penalty spot to crack the ball past the 'keeper. Magpies then pushed on, looking for a second, dominating the play, and having several shots on target, only to be well saved by the Beccles 'keeper.

Then, against the run of play, and only minutes before the half time whistle, Beccles got the equaliser, a well taken strike into the far corner of the goal.

Magpies came out for the second half determined to find the winner, but Beccles stayed strong, with their 'keeper again making some good stops, and their forwards also looking to score, and as ever, were dangerous on the break, but Magpies held them off. And so it ended in a draw.

A strong, committed display from Magpies, who were unlucky not to find the winner. Special mention must go to Becky Ford and Liz Cole at the heart of the Magpies defence for their outstanding performances, and also to Hannah Booty at centre midfield for her tireless effort and strong, positive play. Let's hope the new year brings us some new luck!
