MALDON & Tiptree have appointed Terry Spillane as their new manager.

Spillane, who has recently resigned as manager of Redbridge, has been unveiled as the new boss at fellow Ryman League Division One North side Maldon & Tiptree.

He was only in charge of the Motormen for one season, guiding them to a sixth-place finish, after joining from Essex Senior League side Stansted.

He replaces former Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers striker Mike Flanagan, who was caretaker manager at Park Drive for most of last season after taking over from Brad King and Glen Knight.

Chairman Ed Garty was left stunned when Flanagan decided earlier this month not to take on the job full time next season.

Maldon & Tiptree’s rivals Heybridge Swifts have meanwhile announced three new signings.

The Swifts have made a triple raid on Eastern Counties League Premier Division side Stanway Rovers and signed strikers Michael Cheek and Russell Malton and left winger Ben Newson.

Former Colchester United player Malton was previously with the Swifts, while Cheek scored 20 league goals for Stanway last season.

Newson, whose twin brother Sam plays for Needham Market, was second joint top scorer in the Eastern Counties League last season, netting 26 times.

The signings came via Wayne Bond, a former manager of the Swifts, who has re-joined as the club’s new chief scout. Bond had a spell in charge at Stanway during the 2010/11 season.
