WOODBRIDGE, who have not won the Hambro Cup since 1994, hope for success under the captaincy of Suffolk seniors' captain Jon Marks. His side to entertain Stowmarket on Sunday includes James Keely and Chris Bye, both of whom have regained amateur status.

Marks has taken current form into consideration and feels he has a score to settle with Stowmarket who have had the better of recent exchanges, but always with home advantage.

Half the Stowmarket team is made up of seasoned campaigners like Paul Buckle, Dean Tricker, Nathan Overton and Martin Darling. The other half comprises talented juniors like Suffolk schoolboy champion Sam Forgan, his brother Ben, Patrick Spraggs and Chris Underwood.

Rushmere need to sharpen up their game if they are to overcome a Waldringfield team boosted by their Stenson Shield success against Rookery Park. Mike Virley steps up into the Waldringfield side.

Rushmere's performance at Ufford Park in the Stenson was reminiscent of the England cricketers against Bangladesh. They made heavy weather of their success.

Hintlesham, Hambro winners in 2004, entertain Flempton. Youngsters Joe and Jack Cardy and Phil Westley are blended with old hands like Adie Meredith, Trevor Hellyer and Jerry Procter. Scott Vandervord has joined the professional ranks since last season.

Haverhill have former professional David Quinney as well as teenagers Harry Mills and Oliver Cracknell, in their team against Rookery Park. Craig Sissons is another setting off on a Hambro career that could last for many years. Rookery will look to bounce back from their Stenson setback.

Fynn Valley took to Suffolk players Bradley Wilkins and Chris Smith to provide the experience that will help their young squad. Their match against Gorleston, who include county champion Alex Holmes, could be close.

There is a West Suffolk derby at Bury St Edmunds where The Suffolk are the visitors. Matt Fordham leads a Bury team that shows few changes from last year. Tom Stephenson, beaten finalist in the Suffolk amateur match play last year, is a junior with the confidence to chalk up victories when required.

Brett Vale provide a potential banana skin for Thorpeness. Last season's beaten finalists will have been stung by a home defeat at the hands of Aldeburgh in the Stenson.

Aldeburgh entertain Halesworth. Although Nigel Robson and Logan Mair return, John Wybar, Alex Stanley and Freddie Edmunds will be missed.

Some clubs overlook their talented youngsters when picking Tolly Cobbold teams. Then they find that these lads become single-figure players and are no longer eligible.

Rushmere have taken the plunge with Josh Cottrell and Connor James who are in the Suffolk under 14 coaching squad. They face Gorleston who were Tolly winners in 1971 and 1975.

Flempton go into their match against Aldeburgh Artisans with a judge, a surgeon and a policeman in their team while holders Stoke by Nayland rely on several players who have been prominent in the Suffolk Winter Alliance for their home tie with Diss.
