Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy is no rush to loan out of his young players following their impressive display in Tuesday night’s 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Premier League side Crystal Palace.

McCarthy named a side with an average age of 20 – the youngest in the club’s history – for the second round tie at Selhurst Park.

“Until everyone is fit I really them to be back-up,” said McCarthy, who has several senior players sidelined.

• Who are the Ipswich Town kids who impressed at Palace?

“Don’t forget we can still do emergency loans to the National League after the window shuts (at 11pm on Thursday) where they could get some good, competitive football. You can do that with a 24-hour recall after the first month, which could suit us.

“If a league team came in for someone like Adam McDonnell, who did really well the other night, I’d certainly consider it. I’ll consider any reasonable requests, but I’m not going to leave myself short.”
