Battle commences this coming Sunday (February 26) between Jason Morland (Halstead) and Jamie Roper (Sudbury) in the first round of the G H Motorcycles/Husqvarna/ACU Eastern Solo Enduro Championship, to be staged in Thetford Forest, Santon, and organised by the Diss Motor Cycle Club.

Morland will have the coveted number one plate this year, as he won the Championship Class title last season.

Brendan Mayers will be backing up his fellow club member, although Chris Hockey (Sudbury) cannot be discounted as he is hungry for his 10th title.

Other local riders in contention are the Sudbury Motor Cycle Club trio of Steve Mason, Craig and Rick Roper.

But unfortunately for Alex Rampton, the winner of the Expert and Clubman crowns over the last two years, it will be a non-start as he has broken a collar bone, sustained while at Boot Camp.

However, Harry Clark (Sudbury) will be riding in his first Solo Championship. He hopes his Moto Cross skills will hold him in good stead.

In the Expert Class, if Ryan McDonnell (Sudbury) can apply himself, then he has a good chance of winning this class, although there will be tough opposition from Nick Barrett and Jack Nicolaou (both Sudbury), plus Ben Grice (Lowestoft).

Tom Sargent (Bury St Edmunds) looks favourite for the Clubman Class title this year. He will receive stern competition from Daniel Piper, Lee Monger and Ben Roper (all Sudbury), while Joe Marsh (Halstead) and George Warren (Castle Colchester) intend to be up amongst the leaders.

The following week, on Sunday, March 5, the Sudbury Club will be running their Annual Endurothon for pairs and solos.

The venue will be at Foxborough Quarry Sible Hedingham, starting at 9am, and will run for five hours non-stop.

Meanwhile, Sudbbury’s Stephen Green has had a busy time, He attended the recent 2016 ACU Awards Presentation at the National Motorcycle Museum to receive the British 500cc Upright Grass Track Championship Cup.

And earlier this month, Green received the ACU Eastern 500cc Upright Grass Track Trophy.
