There is a busy schedule of non-league action tonight as three of Suffolk’s Ryman League clubs are in action, searching for points for contrasting reasons.

In the Ryman Premier, struggling Needham Market host Billericay Town at Bloomfields, while in Ryman North, Bury Town are at home to Brightlingsea Regent and AFC Sudbury entertain Dereham Town.

Needham are third from bottom in their new surroundings, having been promoted last season, and are chasing just a second league win of the season.

As for Sudbury, Jamie Godbold’s side grabbed an impressive 3-1 victory at Barkingside at the weekend, goals from Luke Callander, Ryan Henshaw and Craig Parker cementing their place in the play-off spots.

They are in fourth and a point and a place behind them are Ben Chenery’s Bury who strolled to a 5-1 victory at home to Romford at the weekend.

The Blues have adapted well to life at a lower level, taking 18 points from a possible 27 at home and tonight face James Webster’s Regent outfit, who are firmly positioned in mid-table in their second season at Ryman North level. Brightlingsea were 1-0 winners against Maldon & Tiptree at the weekend, former Ipswich Wanderers’ midfielder Luke Read grabbing the only goal of the game.

Bury Town’s Ollie Canfer will look to continue his fine form for his new club, the midfielder has scored four goals in his first four matches after joining from AFC Sudbury earlier this month.

He faces a few familiar faces tonight against former club Brightlingsea, including cousin Josh Mayhew, who is likely to lead the line for the R’s upfront.

Elsewhere in the Ryman League tonight, Witham Town travel to Great Wakering Rovers, while Heybridge Swifts, still smarting from an 8-1 home defeat to Cheshunt at the weekend, host Aveley.

There is just one game in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division tonight, leaders Norwich United playing host to their Norfolk rivals Fakenham Town.

Tomorrow night, Leiston, in third, entertain second-top Canvey Island in a huge game at Premier Division level.

Richard Wilkins’ side will be looking to bounce back after a 1-0 defeat at Kingstonian at the weekend – a game that saw Leiston youngster Zehnn Young receive his marching-orders late in the game.
