Needham Market travel to Dorking with manager Richard Wilkins looking to get the team’s mojo back

Needham have lost their last three league fixtures – all on the road – at Thurrock, Dulwich Hamlet and on Tuesday night at Hendon.

It’s now one league win in six.

Wilkins knows that’s just the way it is right now. There are no panic buttons being pressed, he is confident things will turn.

“A few players have just lost their mojo a bit, a bit of confidence at the moment,” he said.

“We had our opportunities at Hendon on Tuesday night but it wasn’t to be. Defensively we seem to have got it right, we aren’t conceding goals, but attacking-wise we have lost a bit of zip.

“Things aren’t going for us, small things, shots just clearing the bar, passes just not quite there by half a foot. We just need that lucky break, that lucky goal, off someone’s backside or get a deflection, or anything and that could kick-start us.

“We need to get the first goal, an early goal and then I think we will turn someone over three or four. But at the moment that’s not happening.”

Needham travel to a Dorking side tomorrow who they could leapfrog were they to get victory.

Wilkins knows the players will continue to battle.

“We must keep believing and work through the rut,” he said.

“Work hard and believe. It’s no good sticking our head in the sand.

“Admittedly some players should be doing better and results and tables don’t lie. I suppose the word I would use to describe things right now is ‘frustrating’.”

Wilkins has enough experience at his disposal and enough good players in his squad to come through what have been a tough run of fixtures.

Things are set to get harder league-wise before they get better, with big-spending Billericay Town the next visitors to Bloomfields in a league fixture in 10 days.

“Confidence is hard to come by but easy to lose and that is the position we find ourselves in at the moment,” Wilkins added.
