NEW East Bergholt manager Nathan Burrell is relishing working for the enemy.

The 38-year-old has replaced Karl Vernau as manager of the village side that became the first to win three consecutive Metaltec SIL Senior Division titles from 2004 to 2006.

Results have dipped since then and Burrell said today: “The only way is up.

“With the addition of two or three players I can see us moving back up the table. Take out Grundisburgh, Capel Plough along with Melton St Audry's and Crane Sports and the division is much of a muchness.”

Burrell was involved with Capel for 15 years as player and manager prior to taking a year off. He lives in Capel and added: “My house is across the road from Capel manager Pat Tynan.

“East Bergholt are Capel's main rivals, and I am still recovering from the shock of agreeing to work for the enemy.

“I watched Bergholt a few times over the last 12 months and wanted to get back in the game. I approached the then chairman Dennis McGrath about helping one of the three Bergholt sides.

“Ian Gedny was being linked with a return to Bergholt from Debenham Leisure Centre to manage the first team and I know Ian and thought I might help him.

“But the job was offered to me, and I will have former manager Glynn Hague as my coach, which will be a great help.”
