NEW TROPHY CABINET FOR NEWTON GREEN

A FINE, new trophy cabinet designed and built entirely in-house by members has been unveiled at Newton Green Golf Club.

The solid oak, hand-crafted case was unveiled by club sponsor Jonathan Lambert at Steve Wordley's Captain's Dinner.

The cabinet was designed by engineer/draftsman Andy Dodds and built by cabinet maker Darren Aldous with materials sponsored through a bequest from former ladies' captain Eunice Drake, and money raised at the club's recent Festival of Golf.

A recent open day at the club resulted in more than 20 new members joining, bringing the number of people signing up this year to more than 80. The open day arrivals included the return of a past captain and a number of single handicap players.

The influx of members has been so successful that the club is staging a second welcoming reception day for new arrivals on Saturday, November 21.

With more than 80 anticipated entries, Newton stages its annual Junior Open on Monday, October 26, which will be the final round of the Suffolk EGU Junior order of merit series. All 18 holes have been sponsored, with proceeds going to help towards coaching of young golfers in the club.
