THE bumper Bank Holiday football matches - in terms of prestige and potential revenue - have been decimated by the severe ice and frost that has hit the region.

Every one of today’s matches in the Ridgeons League Premier Division and Division One, as well as the Ryman League football, has been postponed due to frozen pitches.

Most were called off on Boxing Day while today’s matches at Stanway Rovers, Woodbridge Town and Cornard United were among those called off this morning.

Leiston’s home match against Kirkley & Pakefield was the closest to beating the big freeze but was eventually called off at 12.30pm following a second pitch inspection.

Bury Town’s local derby against Lowestoft Town in the Ryman League Premier Division was also called off this morning but the two clubs have agreed to replay the match tomorrow (Tuesday), again a 3pm kick off. If Ram Meadow is once again playable, the sides will try for a third time on Wednesday night (7.45pm ko).
