MIDDLEWEIGHT Anthony Ogogo will clinch his place at next year’s Olympics with a win in today World Amateur Boxing Championships in Azerbaijan.
The Lowestoft grappler produced a stunning performance to defeat fourth-seed Artem Chebotarev, 12-11, after getting the better in an explosive last round.
Ogogo said: “I’m elated to win the bout but I was always confident I would. I don’t fear anyone. Although it’s great to win today, it doesn’t mean anything unless I follow it up with one more win. I’ve got the belief that I can do it.”
Thomas Stalker, Fred Evans and Luke Campbell all head into last-16 bouts in their respective weight categories today in the knowledge that one more victory will secure their tickets to the Games.
