CHELMSFORD City's Head Coach, Glenn Pennyfather, can't wait to take control of the First Team during the forthcoming 2009/10 campaign after reviewing the recently-confirmed Blue Square South constitution, claiming: “Lots of sides will be having a go to win it!”

Pennyfather moved to the front of the dugout recently as the main controller of the Clarets' side, with previous Manager Jeff King moving into a Director of Football role at the club, and the new man in charge is eager to get stuck into the promotion picture now their challengers have been confirmed. “It's a great opportunity and I'm looking forward to it,” he said. “I can't wait to get back into the thick of things.”

A.F.C. Wimbledon and Hayes & Yeading United made the upward move through the non-league pyramid from their division last season, but Pennyfather is wary of the challenge posed by the Conference's newcomers, with three coming down from the Premier. Lewes, Weymouth and Woking are all anticipated to be towards the top of the B.S.S. next term, while existing clubs Eastleigh and Hampton & Richmond Borough are also likely to feature in the championship shake-up.

Elsewhere in the twenty-two, Dover Athletic's first campaign in the Blue Square after promotion as champions of the Ryman Premier isn't expected to be one of just consolidation, and old rivalries against Staines Town will be renewed after they stepped-up via the play-offs. Staying put will be Worcester City and Braintree Town, who were both rumoured to be options to move into the Blue Square North, while Thurrock have enjoyed a reprieve from relegation following the voluntary stepping down of Team Bath and King's Lynn's demotion from the North for ground grading reasons. Bognor Regis Town were also traditionally relegated, while Fisher Athletic have disappeared.

“I'm not sure how Jeff wants to play his new role, or whether he wants to join me in the dugout, but it's all down to me now to make the key decisions in this tough climate which will affect all clubs,” Glenn continued. “I will still report to Jeff and discuss with him which players I can bring in, but there are a hell of a lot of good players about right now and we don't just want to take the first ones that come along. We'll be patient and it will only be a matter of time until we strengthen our squad.”

Plenty of speculation has surrounded wing prospect Ricky Holmes' future of late, but Pennyfather insists there are no announcements to make in his regard, explaining: “We're aware of all the rumours but there is no news on Ricky. We can announce, however, that Ollie Berquez has come through an operation on the knee injury which was hindering him towards the end of the campaign. That is important news for us as we need him to be firing on all cylinders if we're to maintain a promotion push next year.”
