THE road to Europe reopens for Ipswich Town today when the draw for the newly-named Carling Cup takes place at 10am.

A prized UEFA Cup spot is on offer to all Football League, Nationwide Conference and Premier League clubs for the winners, or runners-up of the League Cup, which has been known as the Worthington Cup for the past five years.

Brewers Coors continue to be the sponsors for the next three years after negotiating a new deal with The Football League and re-branding the competition.

Ipswich Town have not been involved in the first round draw since the promotion season of 1999/2000 when they beat Brentford 2-0 home and away before going out in the second round 3-2 on aggregate to Crewe Alexandra.

The regionalised first round is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, and must be settled on the night.

The competition received a boost last season when many top Premiership sides took it seriously for the first time in a while, fielding full-strength sides. Liverpool went on to beat Manchester United 2-0 in the final at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

n The Blues' trip to Wigan looks likely to be put back a day as a top-of-the-table Rugby League match between Wigan Warriors and Bradford Bulls is scheduled to be played at the JJB Stadium on the Bank Holiday Monday.

Instead of meeting newly-promoted Wigan on Monday, August 25 the game is now likely to be played the following night, Tuesday, August 26.
