IPSWICH JAFFA: A bumper field of 400 runners took on the challenge of the Ipswich JAFFA Friday Five, the first race in this summer’s Friday Five Series.

Steve Robinson, of Bury-based Saint Edmund Pacers, cruised to victory in 26mins 21secs over a testing five-mile course from St Joseph’s College.

Robinson was more than a minute clear of runner-up Paul Holley, a veteran from Newmarket Joggers, while Tom Fairbrother, a new recruit of hosts Ipswich JAFFA, was an excellent third.

Maureen McCarthy, an over-50 veteran from West Suffolk AC, won an exciting ladies’ race by just three seconds from Louise Hampshire, of Sudbury Joggers. McCarthy clocked 33.55.
