FOOTBALL: Ambitious Leiston’s quest to move up from the Ridgeons League will be intensified with news that a place in the Ryman League awaits.

Mark Morsley’s Suffolk-based club are pre-season favourites to win the Premier Division title and if successful they can expect to play in the much more agreeable Ryman League than the Zamaretto League that spreads into the west midlands.

Martin Head, chief executive of Suffolk Football Association and a delegate to the main FA, confirmed: “It has been agreed in principle that clubs moving up from the Ridgeons League will now feed directly into the Ryman League.

“We now have four Suffolk clubs in the Ryman set-up with Lowestoft Town and Bury Town in the Premier Division and AFC Sudbury and Needham Market in Division One.”

Both Bury and AFC Sudbury were moved across to the Zamaretto (Southern) League from the Ryman, but it looks from now on that all Suffolk clubs moving up the football ladder will take the Ryman route.
