Woodbridge Town have already boosted the Notcutts Park coffers to the tune of nearly £5,000 this season after two terrific FA Cup victories.

Tomorrow they go in search of a bit more cash (£550 to the winners), as Eynesbury Rovers visit Suffolk in the First Qualifying round of the FA Vase, 3pm kick-off.

Yet, while the FA Cup is understandably all the talk right now at the Woodpeckers, two league defeats from their first two Thurlow Nunn Premier games, has left player/manager Jamie Scales will something still to ponder.

“Of course the FA Cup has been brilliant so far for us, but I must admit I would like to have points on the board in the league.

“I can’t stress the importance of us maintaining our Premier Division status – and I think we will, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that as superb as the Cup has been, we’ve been guilty of not taking our chances in our two league games and that has cost us.”

While the ‘Peckers have been beating Clapton and Hadleigh in the FA Cup, their league defeats against Walsham-le-Willows and Norwich United see the team second bottom of the table, in admittedly early days.

“Yes, I would like to have six points because I don’t want us to end up having to play catch up,” Scales admitted.

“But of course the FA Cup run is exciting. We go to either Swindon Supermarine or AFC Dunstable next week, both teams above us in the pyramid.

“It’s an exciting challenge for us.

“This Saturday it’s the FA Vase. If we were to beat Eynesbury, then we won’t play another league game until September 18 with FA Cup next week and then possibly the Vase the week after. But we’re doing alright and we certainly aren’t beating ourselves up for doing so well in the Cup!

“I’m confident we will be comfortable mid-table come the end of the season and we will be happy with that.”

Woodbridge were promoted last season, along with Framlingham and Whiton United.

Neither the ‘Peckers or Fram (who entertain Wisbech St Mary tomorrow), have won a league game yet, while Whitton (who entertain Hatfield in the FA Vase at King George V tomorrow), have won just one.

It’s far too early to be looking anything into that right now.

And anyhow, Woodbridge have got more FA Cup and FA Vase glory to go for!
