Thurlow Nunn Premier Thetford Town 3 Felixstowe & Walton United 1 Felixstowe & Walton United saw their six match winning run, which had produced 20 goals without reply, come to an abrupt end in deepest Norfolk as they played second best to a resurgent home side.
It might have been worse, as Thetford carved out two chances in the opening ten minutes, with striker Ryan Fuller squandering a good opening with an empty net at his mercy and then Rhys Barber clearing an effort from the same player off the line.
The Seasiders never really got to grips with the conditions or the opposition on a miserable afternoon, trailing 2-0 at the break they did briefly threaten to turn the game around on the hour when Sheridan Driver halved the deficit, but it was a short lived threat as the home side restored their two goal advantage six minutes later and hit the post with 15 minutes left.
Cameron King fired Thetford into a 28th minute lead when he played a one-two with Nyadtaya before striking an unstoppable volley across Danny Crump into the roof of the net.
The result might have been different had the visitors levelled the game up a minute later, but Craig Jennings was denied by Barnes, who pulled off a top class save.
Machaya doubled the score ten minutes later as he got between Davis and Crump to fire home Ross Bailey’s through ball.
Driver produced an acrobatic finish on the hour to pull a goal back but when Fuller stabbed the ball home, latching on to a loose ball after Crump could only parry King’s free kick, the points looked safe for the home side.
The result saw Felixstowe drop down to third place and if there was any thread of comfort for O’Donnell’s side it was the news that leaders Mildenhall suffered a similar fate at Gt Yarmouth.
