Former England international Sheringham has signed a one-year deal as a player, not as a player/coach.
“I'm delighted to have signed for Colchester United. All I wanted to do is keep playing and I've been very impressed with the club”, said Sheringham.
U's manager, Geraint Williams said: “Teddy is a player of great quality and class, and he will bring this to the team. We will be playing him up front and looking for him to continue his fantastic scoring record.”
