Haughley United chairman Alan Sparkes says the club won’t hesitate in making a quick appointment, should the right candidate emerge to fill the vacant managerial hotseat.

SIL Senior Division side Haughley are looking for a new first-team boss following the departure of Steve Double last week.

“We will try and sort something in the next couple of weeks, but we will appoint someone right away if they are the right person for the job,” said Sparkes.

“It won’t be a case of sitting around and waiting to see who else may apply should we find who we believe is the right candidate.

United finished seventh in the league last season, having ended the previous season in fourth position.

“We finished seventh last year and fourth the year before, so we went slightly backwards, although we were never really in any relegation trouble.

“We are an established club in the Senior Division and we want to stay there.”

Sparkes is open to appointing a new manager or management team and outlined the qualities any applicant would need to have.

“We are looking for someone who has managed at (SIL) Senior football or above and someone with a full coaching badge qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.

“We would like to appoint someone who knows the local scene in Suffolk and knows the players that are in the area.

“We would not rule out appointing a new management team, but we are in no rush.

“We have had a bit of interest already.”

Haughley are also looking for a person to become the club’s assistant treasurer with a view to taking on the treasurer’s role in the future.

Meanwhile, Melton St Audrys have appointed Simon Tricker as their new manager for the forthcoming season.

The former Coplestonians, Ipswich Wanderers, Felixstowe & Walton and Grundisburgh player has a wealth of experience from both playing and managing at junior and senior level.

Elsewhere, defender Taylor Hastings has opted for a move away from Ryman North teamHeybridge Swifts.

Heybridge’s Player of the Year two seasons ago, Hastings made 115 appearances for the first team during his time at the club.

However, with offers on the table from higher division sides Chelmsford City and Enfield Town, the 22-year old has yet to decide where his future will be and is considering the offers in front of him.

Heybridge manager Jody Brown is the first to admit he would have loved to have kept Hastings but said despite wanting to keep him at the club, it was very difficult to argue a case against the talented youngster wanting to play higher.
