LEE Smith has returned to former club Bury Town.

The defender left the Suffolk club two years ago to sign for Histon in the Blue Square Premier and played over 60 games for the first team, establishing himself as a favourite among the fans of the Cambridgeshire club.

However, he now feels the time was right to come back to Ram Meadow following the Suffolk club’s progression to the Ryman League Premier Division.

Smith said: “Bury was always a happy home for me and to be back playing amongst some friends again excites me a lot. The club have continued to be successful since my departure and I am determined to be part of further success in the very near future.”

Blues Director of Football Trevor Collins said: “Signing Lee once again cements the club’s intentions for the 2011-2012 season and competition for places will be strongly contested over the next few weeks.

“This also happens at a time when Russell Short has undergone a successful operation for his hernia along with the continued recovery from injury of Callum Kearns.

“This will mean an exciting pre-season, which commences this evening when the players attend their first training session. They will also be joined by a number of trialists.

“I am sure we all look forward to seeing Lee alongside his ‘new’ colleagues when the pre-season kicks off at Newmarket Town on Friday July 15th.”
