BEN Coker celebrated his first ever goal, as a professional, with Colchester United’s third in a 4-1 win at Crewe Alexandra last weekend.

However, Coker’s exploits at Gresty Road came at a cost, when he became the victim of an ugly challenge from Crewe skipper Ashley Westwood. That first-half incident left Coker needing treatment on the pitch.

Westwood was sent off for that late lunge, and although Coker stayed on the pitch to play the full 90 minutes, he has not trained since.

However, U’s boss John Ward is confident that ex-Bury Town left-back Coker will be fit to face MK Dons on Saturday.

“Ben will not resume training until Thursday (today),” revealed Ward.

“That has been the decision of myself and physio Tony Flynn. Ben is still on a high, but we thought it important that he allowed his knee to calm down.”
