Suffolk Plate Final: Southwold 19 Ipswich YM 11
SOUTHWOLD’S fantastic run in the Suffolk Plate competition continued at the expense of brave Ipswich YM who can console themselves with the thought of a fantastic promotion season.
The two sides will face each other in Eastern Counties 1 next season and judging by Saturday’s final, there should be some great match-ups in store. Ipswich YM will feel a little hard done-by. The scoreline certainly didn’t do them justice, as they dominated for a lengthy period of the game. It was from once such attack from the away side that Southwold skipper Day Harvey broke clear to go over.
After Adam Smith went over for the hosts, a final try in the last few minutes from Josh Crick gave Southwold the win and sent the majority of the 200-plus crowd home happy.
Southwold director of rugby Seb Anthony said: “It was a fantastically hard-fought final. We have had a good league season and winning the plate is a great way to finish the campaign.”
