It’s the motorsport highlight of the year in Suffolk - the 2018 National Hot Rod Championship of the World and Spedeweekend at Foxhall Stadium, this Saturday and Sunday, writes Dean Cox.

As ever, the headline of the weekend will be the National Hot Rod World Championship, but also staged will be the Lightning Rod British Championship, Superstox National Championship and Eaton Family Trophy,

The Classic Hot Rod National Championship, National Hot Rods Wild Card Final and World Final Revenge Race plus Nick Thomas Memorial Race,

The Ninja Karts Stars of the Future races as well as the 1300 Stock Car Supreme Championship, Stock Rod East Anglian Championship, Bangers including an attempt for a 100-car race and 2.0Ltr Hot Rod European Championship.

A packed weekend of action.

The English National Hot Rods completed their National Series Finale at Aldershot Raceway recently which saw Billy Wood take the English World Series Points title, while Adam Hylands took the Northern Irish, Jeff Riordan the Southern Irish and Rob McDonald the Scottish and since then we have seen another great drive from Newmarket’s Chris Haird to take the 2018 Thunder 500 at Foxhall Stadium a fortnight ago.

On Sunday all the past year’s work, travelling, racing and commitment will all be laid on the line as we witness the 46th running of the great race, which for many reasons, could just be one of the most open world finals for some time.

There is the added prize this year that this year’s winner of the National Hot Rod World Championship will receive an offer to Race in South Africa to race at ‘The Rock’ in the South African Open Championship.

The aforementioned Haird defends the World Championship having dominated the race last year and is in a rich vein of form.

Suffolk is well represented in the great race again this year with Leiston’s Shaun Taylor, Needham Market’s Aaron Dew and Southwold’s Gavin Murray all taking a place on the grid so they’ll be plenty for local fans to cheer!

Before the big race, there will be a host of races and activities to get through on the Saturday including the National Hot Rod lap times,

The Bangers 100 car event, The Superstox Eaton family Trophy,

Heat 1 of the Ninja Karts Stars of the Future, The Classic Hot Rod National Championship, the National Hot Rod Wildcard Final and the 2.0L Hot Rod European Championship.

Sunday sees events start with the track walk, the National Hot Rod Championship of the World, Ninja Karts Stars of the Future Heat 2, the National Hot Rods World Final Reverse Grid Revenge Race, the Stock Rod East Anglian Championship, the Lightning Rods British Championship, the National Hot Rods Nick Thomas Memorial Trophy, The Superstox National Championship, the 1300 Stock Car Supreme Championship and a host of more great events.

Away from the Racing, there will be a Traders Village located by the Turnstile Complex, full of goodies and some rather nice exhibits to view also.

Racing starts at 12 noon both days, with the entertainment starting from 9.30am each day.
