And that has put Spurs back on red alert.
The ex-Manchester United superstar, 33, is out of contract at Real Madrid at the end of the season and unlikely to be offered a new deal.
Van Nistelrooy said: "In January I can negotiate, see what comes and what the club does. It's a matter of playing and getting my form back."
Tottenham came close to signing the Dutchman for just 1million last summer.
But boss Harry Redknapp apparently baulked at his 100,000-a-week wages and there were also injury fears.
Van Nistelrooy, who spent nine months out with a knee problem last season, added: "I'm fully fit now, healthy physically and mentally."
