The London Marathon, later this month, is the grand finale for many of Stowmarket Striders Running Club members.
The event on April 23 is one of 12 key marathons, the Striders having representation in every one, at iconic venues such as Boston, Paris and Edinburgh.
A total of 41 striders will be taking part in the various marathons, following 18 months of training, and over 1,000 race miles will be completed on top of around 25,000 training miles.
This year, eight athletes are attempting their first marathon, the oldest being 67, while five athletes are currently running at national Good For Age level.
Individual club members are fundraising for 12 local and national charities, including, St Elizabeth Hospice, British Heart Foundation, Prostate Cancer UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Suffolk MIND, Pancreatic cancer UK, Parkinson’s UK, Alzheimer Research UK and The Brain Tumour Charity.
