FOR the second year running Suffolk's bid for glory in the ECB 50+ Championship ended in the first round of the knock-out. Having again qualified with a good record, Suffolk were unfortunate to be drawn away to defending champions Yorkshire, but they were disappointed to be well beaten at Elland, near Halifax.

Batting first they were skittled for 97, never recovering from the loss of skipper Neil Hames for just one. Hames had scored 328 runs at an average of 109.3 in the group matches. Peter Boughton top-scored with 30, while Chris Heron was the only other player to get into double figures with 22. The Yorkshire bowlers were all economical as Suffolk struggled for 44.4 overs. By contrast it only took the home side 24.1 overs to knock off the runs and record a nine-wicket win. Lindsay Huggins took the only wicket to fall. Details: Suffolk 97 (P Boughton 30, C Heron 22, Walwyn 3 for 17). Yorkshire 98 for 1 (J Flintoff 62no). Yorkshire won by 9 wkts.
