Suffolk heavyweight Fabio Wardley got his professional boxing career off to the perfect start with a points victory at York Hall on Saturday night.

The Ipswich prospect, who trains out of the Suffolk Punch stable in Martlesham, defeated Polish southpaw Jakub Wojcik in Bethnal Green, in front of a vocal following from his home town.

The 22-year-old, who has had sparring experience with Norwich heavyweight, Sam Sexton, signed by Shamrock Promotions, was due to make his debut in Norwich last month, but saw his bout cancelled after his opponent pulled out for medical reasons.

However, the rangy 6ft 5ins Wardley, who also saw three attempts to make his debut postponed last year, whilst fighting under a previous promoter, will now look to get back into the gym and prepare for his next bout – his stable and management keen to keep the youngster busy in the ring.
